I had a different post planned but got sidetracked by a government test and a new story that won’t leave me alone. One involving a virtual reality similar to the Matrix (only less confusing), so it’s taking some research. Instead, I’ll share with you some of my favorite rocks. I’m taking a geology class and am learning more about gemstones and minerals than I thought possible — and I’m loving it. Figured I’d share the happiness on this lovely Friday, as well as some pretty pictures. So here are my favorite gems and minerals, not in any order, really.
Malachite

Labradorite

Star sapphire

Garnet (the color of my the stone on my engagement ring); the most gorgeous red
Quartz amethyst

Aquamarine (beryl)

So what do you think? Which of these is your favorite? What are your favorite gemstones and minerals?
My son likes labradorite the best from your post. I like the malachite and the beryl, but my absolute favorite is hematite!
The magnetic part about hematite is fun, and I love the black polished color. Your son has good taste, haha, that labradorite is very pretty. I have a labradorite necklace, and it looks like it glows sometimes. Very awesome.
Sounds awesome! Ian is impressed too!
What a fun post! I have to vote for the labradorite. It’s sort of … mystical looking! I bet that is a fascinating class. And who knows when all that information might come in handy for a novel?
The labradorite is definitely one of my most favorite types of minerals, and I know waaay too much about why it shines like that to possibly be 100% useful. But still, it’s a fun class, definitely better than chemistry or physics.
Funny enough, all of this information is a huge help for me because I’ve created two worlds at this point, and to know what sort of minerals and such can be found as well as what their uses are in reality definitely helps define the worlds more. One world is totally separate and is high fantasy as its best, while the other is a virtual reality world, so all the minerals and such get a lovely, sparkly front seat, since everyone has nice decor or massive jewelry. And why not? Since it’s virtual. Haha.
The amethysts are my favourite, without a doubt. I don’t know why, but I like them best!
I found your blog after a really long time and I still have a lot of catching up to do. I hope it’s okay that I’ve nominated you for The Versatile Blogger award. http://wp.me/p10mCk-79
Amethyst are very pretty, aren’t they? Quartz is very interesting because there’s so many types of it just about everywhere. It’s pretty cool.
And thank you! I admit I need to catch up on your blog, too, but I do like your reviews. You read some books I tend to not think of. =)
